How Andy started a career in home care...

I found Home Care after helping my mother figure out senior living options for my grandmother. At the age of 90 she was placed in a charming adult family home but never liked it. She requested to return home every time I visited her. Consequently, I discovered in-home caregiving services.

This exposure to Home Care came at a time in my medical sales career at a time when I was becoming more disenchanted after 15 long years of calling on doctors. I was looking for a business opportunity where my previous experiences might be helpful.

I opened my independent Home Care Agency in January 2013 and left the pharma industry on February 28, 2013. I have never regretted my decision.

Andy’s tips for caregiver hiring and retention…

In our recruitment ads, I offer a bonus program, cell phone discount, and other benefits so that I am on par with what others are offering. I have had some success with posting specific ads for the available shifts and clients, specific to location, hours and client type. I have not had success with ads that tout a higher starting wage. Be sure to state in your ads the type of culture your company offers and the kind of heart you are looking for in a senior companion caregiver

How he’s using technology to gain a competitive edge...

ClearCare’s top of the line technology home care software is versatile and helps us manage scheduling, billing and payroll seamlessly. Being able to manipulate these important business functions from any computing device gives our company the flexibility to handle our customers changing needs, in the moment. I believe the texting function helps keep our caregivers aware of their shifts and locations. This reduces scheduling issues and frees up staff to work on growing the business.

I come from a field sales career and have used several different CRM programs. I am pleased with the functionality offered by ClearCare to manage our referral contacts and track performance. This provides me important tools to manage our sales efforts.

Many of our referral sources and family of clients are impressed with the options in the family room portal. It is a nice feature to offer to families that desire a real time connection to the care we are providing. It has been a significant feature of our agency, for some referral sources to recommend us because of the family room portal.

In his spare time...

Niska Fam

I love cycling on my road bike. I have an early am group that rides 3-4 times a week. I love playing in the outdoors with my family. We have 5 kids and enjoy boating, camping, skiing, hiking, and spend a fair amount of time on the tennis courts.

 

 

If he wasn't already a ClearCare home care hero, he would be…

After too much thought, I am going with Spider-Man. I love the versatility he possesses, but who wouldn't love swinging through a city of skyscrapers!
